Reducing poverty by building skills and relationships that strengthen families & individuals
brings people from all economic levels together to understand the challenges and strengths of living in poverty. Workshops and teams lay the foundation for individuals and families to thrive in Jackson County.
Thrive! is relation-based. Healthy relationships provide support in times of trouble, celebration in times of joy, and accountability to goals. Intentional relationships across economic levels promote the success in this journey.
Meetings are held weekly on Thursday evenings, starting with supper at 5:45pm and then workshops 6:30-8pm. Childcare is provided at no charge, but reservations are required. Location is Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, Kansas.
January, February, and March - An orientation session for potential mentors meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays during February and March. Leader applications are accepted in January and February.
March thru August - Leaders (low-income participants) will meet weekly to explore where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there. Allies (mentors) will meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays for Ally Training to learn about the perceptions and realities of poverty and how to build an intentional relationship.
Next 18 months - Teams of one Leader and two Allies will meet on the odd Thursdays to work on the Leader's goals. The Leaders will also continue meeting on the even Thursdays to learn additional skills to build a thriving life.
