Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families. But unless you've experienced poverty, it's difficult to truly understand. The Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) bridges that gap from misconception to understanding. CAPS is an interactive immersion experience. it sensitizes community participants to the realities of poverty. CAPS is not a game. It is based on real Community Action clients and their lives.
In the simulation, participants assume the roles of different families facing poverty. The task of the "families" is to provide for basic necessities and shelter during the course of four 15-minute "weeks".
Limited to 88 participants. Pre-registration is required. Check-in and orientation is at 6pm; simulation starts at 6:30pm and ends between 8 and 8:30pm. Childcare is NOT available.
Join us for a night out on the town! Live music entertainment with dueling pianos! Catered cajon meal! Bead game and raffles! Absolutely a blast!
Limited number of tickets available so get yours early!
Thrive! meets on Thursday evenings, starting with supper at 5:45pm and workshops at 6:30pm. Meals and childcare are free to all participants. Location is Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, Kansas.
