Thrive! Jackson County (Kansas)

brings people from all economic levels together to understand the challenges and strengths of living in poverty.  Workshops and teams lay the foundation for individuals and families to thrive in Jackson County.

Thrive! is relation-based.  Healthy relationships provide support in times of trouble, celebration in times of joy, and accountability to goals.  Intentional relationships across economic levels promote the success in this journey.

Meetings are held weekly on Thursday evenings, starting with supper at 5:45pm and workshops at 6:30pm.  Meals and childcare are free to all participants.  Location is Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, Kansas.

January and February - An orientation session for potential mentors meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays during January and February.  Called Conversations, this discussion group explores poverty issues and potential solutions presented in Scott Miller's book, Until It's Gone.  Upon completion, participants have the opportunity to take the next step and attend Bridges Out of Poverty, delving deeper into the life of poverty and the role of mentors..

March thru June - Leaders (low-income participants) will meet weekly to explore where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there.  Upon successful completion, graduates  team up with two mentors to work together to accomplish the goals.

March thru June - After successful completion of Conversations, mentors (middle- and upper-class) will meet for Ally training on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays.  Here, they will learn about the perceptions and realities of poverty and how to build an intentional relationship.
